Colorado laser eye surgery FAQ

More detailed information
How is ICON more affordable than other clinics? (We own our lasers)
Does ICON have custom LASIK? (Yes)

What assurance do I have that Icon LASIK will deliver a great result?

Your Icon LASIK surgeon will set a target to correct your vision to 20/20 or better. If your results deteriorate, your doctor will reassess you and with your consent retreat you according to the terms of our enhancement commitment. Of course, normal aging and eye disease are not the responsibility of Icon LASIK and are excluded from this program.

How Quickly Can I Return to Normal Activities?

We recommend that you sleep for about five hours following your procedure. Your eyes may be itchy and watery. This is common immediately following treatment. Most patients are able to return to work within 24 hours of having the procedure. Reading can sometimes be troublesome for the first week following laser eye surgery. There is a two week period in which we request that you take no rigorous showers, refrain from wearing eye make-up and stay away from dusty, dirty environments.

What If I wear contact lenses?

Contact lenses somewhat alter the curvature of the cornea. This will be discussed with you when you book your consultation.

What is required from me following my procedure?

You will be required to see your surgeon the day after your procedure and most often after a period of seven days. Your doctor may require a one-month and three month examination as well. There is a small chance that your doctor may need to see you in between scheduled appointments. Following laser vision correction, a patient's vision is typically stable within a three-month period.

Can I have both eyes treated on the same day?

Most patients choose to have both eyes done on the same day. However, patients do have the option of having only one eye treated at a time.

Do I need glasses after having laser eye surgery?

After having laser vision correction, glasses for distance should not be required. Prior to your procedure, your surgeon will discuss an eye condition known as presbyopia with you. Presbyopia is the eye's diminished ability to focus and is a natural part of the aging process. It is unrelated to the cornea and cannot be treated by laser vision correction. Beyond the age of 45, reading glasses are often required to counter the effects of presbyopia. Icon LASIK believes that for most patients, reading glasses are a welcome alternative to two pairs of glasses or bifocals.

Is my night vision going to be affected?

On a long-term basis unlikely. In the initial 2-4 month period following your procedure it is normal to have some degree of night glare due to the healing process. This is temporary. If you have very large pupils and the surgeon feels that you may be at risk of ongoing night vision problems, then this will be discussed with you at your consultation.

How long does laser vision correction take?

On the day of your procedure, plan on being at the center for approximately 2-3 hours. This allows time for the signing and review of your consent form, payment arrangements, and the initial cleaning and anesthetizing of your eye(s). You will be in the laser room for about 15 minutes. Following your time in the laser room, you will be required to wait 20 to 30 minutes for a brief examination prior to leaving.

Is LASIK painful?

Laser vision correction is almost completely painless. You are awake during the entire procedure; however your eyes are completely anesthetized with drops. Your eyelid is held open with a special instrument called a speculum. While the flap is being created, you may feel some pressure on your eye. The actual laser treatment takes less than one minute.

How do I know I am getting the best laser eye surgeon in Colorado?

Icon's team of optometrists and laser eye surgeons is the best in Colorado. Icon has performed more laser vision correction procedures than any other clinic in Denver, Boulder, Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs, or any other surrounding community. We have the most experience and the best technology to provide a perfect custom lasik procedure for you. The result is a high likelihood that you will end up at least 20/20.
