What is acne?
Acne is an inflammatory condition of the skin frequently associated with teenagers but common with male and female adults. Typically characterized by clogged pores and pimples, cysts, blackheads and whiteheads, Acne, or Acne Vulgaris affects the face, shoulders, back, neck and chest. The most common causes are changes in hormonal levels, increased sebum production, bacteria (P. acne) and changes inside the hair follicles. Severe acne or acne that is not treated properly can lead to scarring.

Prior to the introduction of the new lasers, patients with acne were typically treated with antibiotics or topical creams. However, today's laser therapy has proven to be a very effective and a faster way to treat acne and acne scars.

Why Laser Acne Treatments?
Icon's acne treatment lasers work by heating the sebaceous glands in the dermis of the skin. This leads to a reduction of oil production. Repeated treatments lead to an observable reduction in active acne in 2 to 4 weeks. Results of acne treatment by sebaceous gland heating have been reported to last up to 6 months.

Integrated contact cooling allows for accurate control of the skin's surface temperature resulting in consistent and reproducible treatments. Constant skin cooling means maximum patient comfort.
