Laser Presbyopia Reversal (LAPR) can correct problems associated with aging eyes. How is LAPR performed, is it painful, and will you be unable to work? Typically, the physician will first numb your eye with drugs, a gel, or an injection. An antibiotic will be applied to the eye to guard against infection. The surgeon will then mark eight places on your sclera (the white part of you eye) where shallow laser incisions are made. The entire procedure typically takes 20 to 30 minutes but this can vary depending on your circumstance. The procedure is nearly painless and you can return to work typically within a day or two. What can I expect after Laser Presbyopia Surgery (LAPR)? After LAPR your eyes may be red for up to 3 to 4 weeks. You may also experience some dryness for a few days after surgery. You will probably have a bluish hue where the laser incisions were placed on your eye, which could remain for quite some time. "After one to two weeks, all of the 10 patients treated in total at two U.S. sites demonstrated the ability to read the daily newspaper without the aid of glasses, while six of the 10 showed successful accommodation -- optimal overall eyesight at varying distances (increased accommodation of one to three diopters)."
